Stones for carving and sculpting
We work with three stones for carving and sculpture: alabaster, limestone and sandstone. Pick based on the hardness and finish you're after, or read on if you're not sure. We sell individual blocks, in several sizes, and also packs that include tools and a guide.
Alabaster
The softest of the three — 1.5 on the Mohs scale — which allows for a lot of detail using basic steel chisels. That's why it's the stone we recommend most for getting started, though it's also used for more elaborate pieces thanks to how easy it is to work. Available from 1 to 20 kg, from €39.

Limestone
Somewhat harder than alabaster. Its strength is the finish: once polished, it takes on a shine that makes it ideal for pieces with fine detail, whether it's your first block or you're after a more refined result. 9kg blocks, €59.

Sandstone
Along with alabaster, one of the easiest to work with. A good option for practicing larger shapes or projects that need more material, without fighting the stone's hardness. 9kg blocks, €59.

FAQ
What's the difference between buying a loose block or one of the tool packs?
The block alone is just the stone; the packs add the basic carving tools and a guide, for anyone who doesn't have the tools yet.
Can I order blocks of different materials in the same order?
Yes, each block is sold separately, so you can mix alabaster, limestone and sandstone in the same cart.
What tools do I need besides the stone?
Basic steel chisels and a mallet are enough.
