Splitting Wedges / Separators

Splitting wedges, also known as expanders, are used to split the largest stones into two parts. These separating wedges are composed of 3 pieces: 2 side wings (which must be inserted into the hole made with the drill) and a central piece, which is the piece struck with the hammer. It is recommended to use several wedges to split a stone, distributing them along the stone with a palm's distance between each. Technically, a wedge can be placed every length of its size; that is, if the wedge is 20 cm long, 20 cm is the maximum distance between each wedge. Wedges can split up to three times their length, though this depends on the hardness of the stone and other factors. For example, a 20 cm wedge can split a stone up to 60 cm high.

Tips for Splitting Stone with Wedges:

1. Drilling: Ensure the holes are made uniformly and deep enough to insert the side wings completely.
2. Wedge Distribution: Place the wedges along the desired fracture line, maintaining a consistent distance between them.
3. Controlled Strikes: Strike the central piece of each wedge evenly and gradually to avoid irregular fractures.
4. Use of Protection: Use appropriate protective gear, such as goggles and gloves, to avoid injuries during the process.
